Valentine’s Weekend presented by Paxton Gate ~ Portland Oregon
All the way from the east coast, I’m bringing my love of analog, oddities and antiquities to Portland Oregon! I’ll be popping up at Paxton Gate capturing love in the most nostalgic way and taking tintypes 11-6:30 both Saturday and Sunday; February 14th will be held at 811 NW 23rd Ave and February 15th at 4204 N. Mississippi Ave! Come create your heirloom portraits with me on your Valentine’s Weekend! Each tintype is crafted with intention and care, from hand-coating, sensitizing, image composing, developing and fixing right before your eyes!
Though the historic process may not take the full duration to complete your image, each slot is 30 minutes long to ensure time to compose, develop and fix your portrait. You are encouraged to take photos and videos of the process and your plate during your appointment (and please feel free to send them my way!)
Not sure what to wear? For image creation, lighter colors do tend to render best (or the color blue; fun fact: collodion is sensitive to it, and it will appear lighter in tintypes than a normal black and white image!), and textured fabrics like lace or fur also make images pop! Regardless, I always encourage self expression through fashion, and above all recommend wearing what you feel best in!
Pricing is sliding scale, pay-what-you-can between 80-120; I like to keep price as approachable as I can while covering my chemistry costs, but anything more is always appreciated!
While walk-ins are welcome for this event (and a great opportunity to peruse a truly lovely shop while you wait), the only way to secure your time is by reserving online!
For groups larger than 3, please contact me or book your time during daylight hours as the option of natural light will be necessary!
Please ensure you are on time! If you are more than 10 minutes late for your scheduled appointment, you will be forfeiting your slot, and must rebook for a later time if available.
Following the event, tintypes are taken back to my darkroom-on-wheels to fully wash, dry and varnish to preserve your image for years to come. They will be delivered back to Paxton Gate no later than Tuesday, February 17th, and can be picked up any time during their normal business hours. You will be norified when your tintype is ready for pickup. *Shipping is available for an additional charge*

5 historic 4x5 tintypes
5 4x5 large format photographs (on black and white film; color available for $20 extra per exposure)
High resolution scans of each plate and negative as well as sharable files
